Frequently asked questions

Quick answers for hosts, guests, and teams evaluating Story Point Poker.

Getting started

Is Story Point Poker free?
Yes. You can create and join rooms without paying. Optional support includes a coffee link and, when accounts are enabled, an ad-free plan so free rooms can stay available for everyone.
Do I need an account?
No for core play. Guests enter a display name and join with anonymous auth. Accounts (when enabled on the site) add a saved profile name and plan features such as ad-free.
How do I invite people?
Share the six-character room code or the direct link to /room/YOURCODE. Anyone with the link can open the join flow.

Voting and rooms

Can others see my vote before reveal?
No. The room only shows that you have voted (or not). Point values stay private until the host reveals the round.
What do the cards mean?
The default deck is a Fibonacci-style set (0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21) plus “?” for unknown and a coffee card for a break. Numbers are relative size, not hours, unless your team agrees otherwise.
Who can reveal votes?
The host. Hosts can also start timers, clear rounds, nudge non-voters, set the story title, and transfer host to another participant.
What if the host leaves?
Host succession promotes another participant when needed so the room can continue. If the last person leaves, the room is removed.
I refreshed the page — did I leave?
No. Refresh keeps you in the room. Use Leave room when you intend to exit. Idle browser closes may be pruned after a short heartbeat timeout.

Accounts and ads

Does the whole team need ad-free?
No. If the host has ad-free, the room stays clean for everyone in that session. If you have ad-free and join someone else’s free room, ads stay hidden for you.

Privacy and data

What do you store about me?
Display names, room activity needed to run a session, and — if you register — email and profile fields. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not sell personal information. Advertising partners may use cookies for ad delivery and measurement; that is disclosed in the Privacy Policy.
